As always, the kids were quite excited about Valentine's Day. This year we got the directive that no candy could be passed out. It cut down the number of kids that brought cards to pass out but I'd say about half did so. Instead of candy many student's brought non edible favors like play-doh, pencils, erasers, bookmarks, etc. All very fun stuff that they seemed to like at least as much as candy based on the enthusiasm I saw from them.
Now that they're in 3rd grade they can all read the names on the cards. That wasn't true for some of them when I taught 1st grade a couple years ago. I didn't have to help anyone read the names this time.
Although their excitement can push me to near exhaustion by the end of the day, I'm always touched when I see them passing out their cards.
