President's Day 2021

Monday, February 15, 2021

President's Day today and I used it to do nothing other than relax.

Still life.

Another still life.

Watched The Shining Hour on Turner Classic Movies.

Beautiful sunny day.

Valentine's Day 2021 - Our Valentine's to Each Other

Sunday, February 14, 2021

Dale's Valentine to me references Slow Boat to China, specifically the Holly Cole version. Holly Cole is a master of phrasing and can turn the meanings of lyrics inside out. What started out as a song about wanting to spend a lot of time with someone becomes a testament  to wanting to make someone pay dearly for a love related misdeed in Ms. Cole's interpretation. Dale and I saw her perform this song live and it's become something of an inside joke with us.

My card references a funny photo I found on Instagram which I texted to Dale earlier today. It's shown in a previous post on this blog but I'll also include it here (see below). Dale found it hysterical.

Valentine's Day 2021 - Cocktail Hour

Sunday, February 14, 2021

Put on some Ella Fitzgerald for cocktail hour music.

The Like Someone in Love album is perfect for today.

We rescued a damsel in distress recently on the sidewalk in front of our house. Her parents sent us a gift package of treats.

They treats were delicious; summer sausage, cheddar cheese, and crackers.

Daiquiris for me and wine for Dale.

After Ella we listened to Chet Baker. His My Funny Valentine was especially appropriate tonight.

We had chicken pot pie for dinner which is, I think, our favorite winter meal.

We watched The Big Bang Theory whilst eating dinner. We've been plowing through every episode of the series, in order, on HBO MAX. The first episode of the three we watched tonight was, coincidentally, a Valentine's Day episode.

For dinner I had tiramisu and Dale had carrot cake. Simply divine.

Valentine's Day 2021 - Miles Davis

Sunday, February 14, 2021

Today's a great day for listening to a little relaxing music. Miles Davis fits the bill. The Love Songs collection is very nice and contains a version of Love For Sale that I like very much along with his rendition of Cyndi Lauper's Time After Time. This album's been in my collection for quite a while.

Today I downloaded the Plays for Lovers collection. I particularly like the selections My Funny Valentine as well as It Never Entered My Mind

It's a beautiful sunny Sunday and it's lovely just sitting in the living room listening to music.

Valentine's Day 2021 - Chilly Morning

Sunday, February 14, 2021

Woke up this morning to extreme cold.

After the yesterday's outcome of the impeachment trial I realized the extent of the accumulation of the exhaustion I've felt over the past year. When I think back to just one year ago today concern over Covid-19 was only in its beginning stages. No one had any idea of what was a to come. It was probably for the best considering the hell-scape on the way.  Sometimes ignorance is bliss.

The past week has gone well although it's been absolutely exhausting. I got my first dose of the Covid vaccine a week ago yesterday. On Monday many of our Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd graders at school transitioned back to in-person learning. Although I've been assigned to continue with distance learning for the time being, I'm back to working in the school building rather than from home. It's actually been exciting to be back at school and seeing kids in the halls. However, the transition was emotionally exhausting. This is the third time this past year that my job has been turned inside out and upside down.

Dale's took off for the gym an hour or so ago but I've decided  to utilize this three-day weekend to rest and recuperate. I'm taking the headache which started yesterday seriously and consider it a sign I need to slow down. For now I'm just gonna read...

...and have a Pop-Tart.
